july fourth looks i love.

It's almost the 4th of July and I am so excited!  Tonight the city is putting on a grand fireworks show to start off everyone's holiday with a bang.  The Fourth is one of the most fun holidays to dress for, in my opinion.  Red, White & Blue are great color combos for outfits in the summer.  Plus it's the perfect day to wear anything nautical, which I love!

Summer Staples

Since summer officially started on Wednesday, I thought I would share a few things every preppy girl needs in her summer wardrobe.

First off, Jack Rogers!  If you've been reading for a while you know my platinum Jack Rogers are my all time favorite sandals.  They go with everything! Plus, they are perfect for spring, summer, fall and (Florida) winter.  And they transition so well from casual to semi-dressy, don't you think?

I don't think I will ever get tired of the stripe trend.  Striped tees are one of those things that can be styled so many ways.  During the summer I think they go great with white jeans or colorful chino shorts.

My favorite shorts this summer are my five inch white chinos from J.Crew.  I wear them all the time with Vineyard Vines polos {here} or just a plain 'ole t-shirt.

Cover-ups are obviously a necessity during the summer.  Duh! Right?  Everyone knows this...  I have to be so careful about not getting burned {check out the sun savvy blog!} during the summer, sometimes I will sit by the pool in my cover-up to be extra safe, so of course I want it to be cute!  Don't you just love this Anthropologie Lounging Poolside Chemise?  I think it could easily be worn as a sundress too, it's just so adorable!  It's perfect to help you pack light for a summer beach trip.

Y'all know I am in love with all things Lilly!  This Shoreline tote bag is not only Lilly, it's even better because it also has lobsters on it!  Could a girl wish for anything more out of a beach bag?  I don't think so!

Every girl needs a good summer swimsuit!  I am in love with this Lilly Pulitzer two-piece swimsuit in High Tide Toil (one of my favorite patterns of the summer!).

Sweet Summertime

If you have already been to the beach this summer, than I am extremely jealous of you.  I have been taking a summer class, so I haven't been able to make it to the beach yet this summer.  I have, however, been able to go to the pool some, which has been wonderful!  Although, I have to be so careful that I don't get sunburned... but despite this I still love being out in the sun during the summer!

For those of you who have been reading for a while you probably know that I am kind of obsessed with straw bags during the summertime.  I have a straw bag very similar to this one from Target and I use it all the time!  It is the perfect bag to take to the pool or beach.

Vineyard Vines has a great selection of swimsuits this summer.  I particularly love this one {well, I actually love them all... how can you not?}  Tory Burch has a great selection of adorable flip flops that are perfect for any summer outfit.

Being extremely fair with blonde hair and blue eyes does not make for the perfect combo outdoors.  My eyes are super sensitive to the sun and I have to be super careful so that I don't turn into a lobster.  So, I pretty much never go outside without a pair of sunglasses! I have a pair of Ralph Lauren sunglasses from a couple of years ago (similar to the ones above) that I wear everyday.  I would die without them!

It is very important not to forget the sunscreen when you're outside for long periods of time.  Even if you don't think you need it, you do! You can get sunburned on an overcast day and the sun can still damage your skin if you're not getting a bad burn.  So be careful! Remember to pack this Neutrogena Wet Skin Sunblock, it's perfect for the beach or pool.  But, don't forget to put some SPF on your lips too!  I particularly love this Sugar Lip Treatment, it is one of my favorite summer essentials.

day at the beach.

It's almost summer time, which means it's almost beach time!  Even though I live in Florida and the beach is only a few hours away, I don't get to the coast very often.  I wish I could spend every weekend looking at the beautiful ocean, but sadly that is not my reality... But, a girl can dream! One nice thing about living in Florida though, is the weather is typically perfect for the pool or sitting outside.  Recently, I have been spending a lot of time sitting at a table under an umbrella at Starbucks or at my apartment doing homework.  It has been so nice!

Only one week until my spring break! Which means...swimsuit time!

I love spring and summer, but seriously who doesn't?!

Sitting by the pool, going to the beach, hanging with friends...what could be better?

 I am by no means a sun goddess! I am usually hiding from the sun, I burn so easily! But, I do love the beach and sitting by the pool.  It's always nice to have a go-to swimsuit, whether you're hanging out with friends or babysitting, sometimes it's nice to have a one-piece suit on hand.  J.Crew and Lilly Pulitzer always have quite a selection of suits and Target has a wide variety of more affordable options.
