Summer Staples

Since summer officially started on Wednesday, I thought I would share a few things every preppy girl needs in her summer wardrobe.

First off, Jack Rogers!  If you've been reading for a while you know my platinum Jack Rogers are my all time favorite sandals.  They go with everything! Plus, they are perfect for spring, summer, fall and (Florida) winter.  And they transition so well from casual to semi-dressy, don't you think?

I don't think I will ever get tired of the stripe trendStriped tees are one of those things that can be styled so many ways.  During the summer I think they go great with white jeans or colorful chino shorts.

My favorite shorts this summer are my five inch white chinos from J.Crew.  I wear them all the time with Vineyard Vines polos {here} or just a plain 'ole t-shirt.

Cover-ups are obviously a necessity during the summer.  Duh! Right?  Everyone knows this...  I have to be so careful about not getting burned {check out the sun savvy blog!} during the summer, sometimes I will sit by the pool in my cover-up to be extra safe, so of course I want it to be cute!  Don't you just love this Anthropologie Lounging Poolside Chemise?  I think it could easily be worn as a sundress too, it's just so adorable!  It's perfect to help you pack light for a summer beach trip.

Y'all know I am in love with all things Lilly!  This Shoreline tote bag is not only Lilly, it's even better because it also has lobsters on it!  Could a girl wish for anything more out of a beach bag?  I don't think so!

Every girl needs a good summer swimsuit!  I am in love with this Lilly Pulitzer two-piece swimsuit in High Tide Toil (one of my favorite patterns of the summer!).

What are your favorite summer staples?

wedding season.

The first of my college friends is getting married in July!  It's so exciting, but kind of weird at the same time... I'm still getting used to the idea that I am old enough to get married.  EEEK!  But, weddings are so much fun.  I am looking forward to celebrating with Sarah Jeanne and her new husband!

But first, I must find a dress!

Prince William turns 30.

WOW!  Can you believe Prince William turns 30-years-old today?  If only his mother could see him now.  I know she would be so proud of the man he has become and the way he has helped Kate adjust to the royal lifestyle.

The Duchess of Cambridge is reportedly planning a low-key private dinner with friends, unlike the crazy celebration Prince William had for his 21st birthday, which was African-themed.  It's clear the royal couple have different priorities at this stage in their life.  Prince William will also inherit his half of his mother's nearly $31 million estate.  I'd say that's a great way to celebrate turning another decade?  Wouldn't you?

Here's a look back on a few pictures of the prince over the past 30 years.

Happy Birthday, Prince William!

{critter} chinos.

I love chinos, but chinos with critters on them are way better!  They are perfect for the summer and are so much fun.  I love the solid chinos, they tend to be my go-to short for the spring and summer.  But, ones with anchors or lobsters on them are much more festive for the season.

J.Crew and C Wonder are two of my all time favorite preppy destinations and they both carry critter shorts (and capris).

I have mentioned my love of lobsters a few times {here & here}, so clearly these shorts and pants are on my favorite summer items lists.

Five inch chinos are my go-to summer shorts.  I wear them to class, babysitting, shopping... they are perfect for all occasions!  These dragonfly shorts would be so fun to wear throughout the spring and summer.

Do you wear critter chinos?

Happy Lily Day!

Happy National Wear Lily Pulitzer Day!

It's also the first official day of summer!

This is one of my favorite Lilly dresses! At my Dad's Retirement party in 2007.

Wearing Lily in Maine in 2010!

Last summer in Calloway Gardens.

I love this blue Lily (Sadie) dress in navy curves... I wear it all the time!

I love this Lilly Pulitzer Rawley Dress Beaded.  It might be my favorite Lilly dress that I own.

I'm a little obsessed with Lily Pulitzer!

Will you be wearing your Lily today?

Update Your Wardrobe with C Wonder.

C Wonder is a great site to update your wardrobe (and home) without the J.Crew or Pottery Barn price.  The site is full of preppy, fashionable items.  I think C Wonder gives you the style of J.Crew with just a little bit knocked off the price tag (which won my heart immediately).

I really love their preppy (and nautical) jewelry.  I think I need to order one of these knotted rope bracelets ASAP!

I love the iKat trend and these items are a great way to bring the trend to your home!

Another one of my favorite trends is tortoise shell.  These tortoise cap ballet flats are a great way to add a little bit of tortoise to any outfit.  These flats are perfect for work or school.  I love how flats can easily transition from professional to fun!

This striped tee dress is adorable for summer and looks a lot like this dress from J.Crew, but with a much better price tag!  I love how they pair it with a belt and tan sandals.

I love wearing sleeveless shirts with shorts during the summer.  It's perfect for the hot summer weather, but looks a little more put together than a spaghetti strap shirt.  I love that this one adds a nautical touch with seahorses.

Colored jeans are a huge trend right now and I love it!  However, I haven't quite jumped on the bandwagon yet... mainly because the price for some jeans is just a little too much for me (since we don't know how long this trend will last).  These C Wonder skinny jeans are much more affordable, but equally as stylish.

Kate wears white for Garter Day.

Once again Kate Middleton and the entire Royal Family looked fabulous for Garter Day 2012.  She joined her stepmother-in-law Camilla and Prince Edward's wife Sophie to watch the ceremony in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

HRH Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a Reiss dress and an Alexander McQueen cotton and wool-blend pique coat.

She paired the dress and coat with a L.K. Bennett Natalie Natural box clutch and Sledge Pumps.

Doesn't Her Majesty look adorable with Prince Phillip?

I love Kate's hair in this photo! Adorable!

Kate's hat is by Jane Corbett.

Do you like Kate's Garter Day outfit?
