Labor Day Weekend Travel Essentials

Last weekend I took a few days off of work for a weekend trip to Louisiana.  It was so fun to spend four days visiting my aunt, uncle and cousins.  It worked out perfectly for me to take two days off of work for my baby cousin's first birthday party.  The trip was great, but too quick!

Since I've had travel on my mind and we have a long weekend coming up, I have put together a few of my favorite long weekend travel necessities.

Working Girl Bags

I am all about the fashionable alternative to the briefcase.  Briefcases are so 1990, don't you think?  These days a working girl needs an adorable tote that can take her from the coffee shop, to the office, to dinner/drinks with friends.  The perfect working girl tote fits everything a young professional needs to get through the day.  AKA - phone/iPad/laptop charger, makeup (for mid-day touch-ups of course!), snacks (candy, fruit, whatever your preference you'll be happy you packed a snack!), headphones, wallet, papers/books/whatever you need to take form work to the office (i.e. planner, notepads, etc.), and whatever else that may help you get through the day a little easier.  Your work bag is like a mini traveling office, so it's important to pack what you need!

Remember this post?  Well I found this bag at T.J. Maxx and now it's my go-to work tote.  But, I'm still on the lookout for another one... maybe a little bit smaller, a cross between a tote and a purse perhaps!

What is your go-to work bag/purse?  Any suggestions for my purse dilemma?

Labor Day Weekend Travel Essentials

Labor Day is less than a week away, so it's time to start packing for your long weekend getaway!  Friday afternoon I will be heading north for some Gator football... I am only staying two days, so a small duffle is plenty large enough to carry everything I will need for my trip.  It's always smart to have a couple go-to bags so you're never stressing out before a relaxing vacation (even if it's only for the weekend!).

Tuckernuck has a fabulous collection of stylish weekend bags to help you prepare for your travels!

What are your go-to weekend travel essentials?  Are you taking a fun trip for Labor Day?

For my birthday I got this blue Kate Spade cross-body bag.  It's on sale so it was a perfect time to get it!

Vineyard Vines.

One of my all time favorite summer brands is Vineyard Vines.  I mention pieces from Vineyard Vines often.  I love that Vineyard Vines clothes and accessories are classic and preppy.  I wear their polo shirts all the time, they are great to such grab and have a quick put together preppy outfit.  I also love their sports team collection (they have some adorable Gator accessories).

Do you shop Vineyard Vines?

seersucker saturday.

Since it's Memorial Day weekend, I figured it's a perfect time to bust out some seersucker.  I love wearing seersucker.  I wish I could wear it year round (since I live in Florida and it's always warm!), but sadly I like to (kinda) fallow the rules.

I love these tan Ivanka Trump 'Brisa' Sandals.  Even though they are a little tall for my liking (3 1/4 inches), they are classic and great for dressing up sundresses in the summer.

During the spring and summer I love caring pretty much any kind of straw bag! This Melie Bianco 'Anya' Clutch from Nordstrom is a great (reasonably priced) straw clutch that is perfect for church or a quick outing with friends.

I love throwing in anything nautical to complete the 'summer look'.  This anchor bead charm bracelet in ivory and blue from J.Crew is a perfect accessory for any summer outfit.

Brooks Brothers is (in my opinion) the all time best store for all things prep! This seersucker dress is the perfect thing to add to your preppy wardrobe.

Happy Saturday!

blue and white.

When I saw this blue and white sundress from J.Crew I fell in love.  Blue and white are the perfect summer combination!  Blue is one of my all time favorite colors to wear and pairing it with white makes it perfect for summer time.  Pairing this dress with a straw bag and a monogrammed bracelet makes it a great preppy summer outfit.

Mother's Day Gifts.

It's almost Mother's Day and that means it's time to start thinking about what to buy your fabulous Mom.  I always have trouble finding the perfect Mother's Day gift.  When I was younger I would sometimes make a gift or my Dad would simply buy her a gift and put my name on it.  But, now that I am old enough to do my own shopping, I must search for a gift that my Mom will love and that I can afford.

Sometimes, it's hard to pick out clothes or shoes for someone else without knowing if it will work or not.  But, if you know that your Mom wears the same size in a specific item, then you can be pretty sure that your gift will work.  If you aren't sure about what size to get (or if your Mom wears different sizes depending on the item), then I would recommend getting an accessory item like jewelry or a handbag

Here are a few ideas for dear 'ole Mom.

day at the beach.

It's almost summer time, which means it's almost beach time!  Even though I live in Florida and the beach is only a few hours away, I don't get to the coast very often.  I wish I could spend every weekend looking at the beautiful ocean, but sadly that is not my reality... But, a girl can dream! One nice thing about living in Florida though, is the weather is typically perfect for the pool or sitting outside.  Recently, I have been spending a lot of time sitting at a table under an umbrella at Starbucks or at my apartment doing homework.  It has been so nice!

trend: crossbody bags

Last May I spent a month in Florence, Italy and loved it!  With all the traveling and site seeing I was doing I needed a versatile bag.  Some of the time I used a Longchamp backpack, but most of the time I used a crossbody bag.  Crossbody bags are great for site-seeing since they are light and easy to carry and allow you to have your hands free.  Since my trip abroad I have continued to carry crossbody bags all the time... they are just so easy!

Here are a few of my favorite crossbody bags.

Have Bags, Will Travel

I always over pack.  Every time I go home for a weekend or a break from school, I pack my entire closet.  It is extremely unnecessary and it takes me forever to unpack when I get back to school, but I seem to still do it every time I go home.  I'm trying to get better.

I tend to use my Vera Bradley or Lilly Pulitzer totes, but I have quite a few other bags that I use for quick trips.  Here are a few bag ideas for weekend (or longer) trips.

My Current Wish List

Even though I just had my birthday, it's always fun to start making your Christmas list early.
I will probably add and subtract items from my list often before the holiday season arrives.  But, it's always fun to make fantasy shopping bags online, no matter what time of year it is!

J.Crew is by far my favorite store (for everyday clothes).  They have a great selection of dresses, jeans, pants, skirts, dresses, and colored tees.  Many of their "classic" items come in every color imaginable, so it's a great go-to store for just about any event you need an new outfit for.

Luckily, I got a few J.Crew gift cards for my birthday so I've been doing some online browsing trying to decide if I should spend my gift cards now, wait to go to the store in Tampa or just wait until Christmas.

Here are so of my current favorites...

These two dresses are from the Factory online department...

This dress would be perfect for work, very chic and classic.

This would be another great dress for work, but I don't wear purple very often (some shades of purple are not my color), so I'm a little nervous to order this one.  But, it's super cute!

As you know, if you read my blog, I love Kate Spade, NY.  I wish I could buy everything they come out with, sadly that would put me in debt.  Last year, I was lucky enough to get a few accessory items from Kate Spade for Christmas, from my mom.  For my birthday I got two KS coffee mugs, so adorable!

I am dieing for a pair of loafers.  I'm a little nervous that I might not be able to pull them off or that they might not be very comfy.  One day I think I'll take the plunge and order a pair, maybe these KS ones will make the cut.

This gray KS cross body bag is so cute and is the perfect size for traveling or shopping when you don't want to carry a large purse.

My third favorite brand is definitely Tory Burch.  I wear Tory flats all the time.  They are perfect for class, the library and work.

I probably won't be buying most of these items, but a girl can wish, can't she?
