Labor Day Weekend Travel Essentials

Last weekend I took a few days off of work for a weekend trip to Louisiana.  It was so fun to spend four days visiting my aunt, uncle and cousins.  It worked out perfectly for me to take two days off of work for my baby cousin's first birthday party.  The trip was great, but too quick!

Since I've had travel on my mind and we have a long weekend coming up, I have put together a few of my favorite long weekend travel necessities.

Travel Chic

The only place I've traveled lately is to football games in Gainesville.  So I haven't really had to worry about packing a carry on bag or a suitcase since when I travel by car I can hang up some of my clothes in the backseat.  But, when I pack for an airplane trip, I always try to only bring the essentials... however, most of the time I over pack!  But, when it comes to dressing for the trip I always make sure I wear shoes that are easy to take off during security and clothes that are comfortable and warm for the airplane.  Pixie pants or leggings are the easiest to wear through security since they don't have any pockets.  Bringing a small blanket or scarf to use incase the plane is cold is also a must!  I am always cold when traveling (even in the summer).

What rules do you always follow when planning travel outfits and packing?

summer road trip

Next week we're leaving on a road trip across the Southeastern United States.  We are going to start our trip in the small town of Lake Park, Georgia talking with a few ladies from the local historical society about our ancestry and we'll end our trip visiting some family friends in Florence, Alabama.  While I'm gone I hope to update y'all on my travels {and other fun}, but in the meantime I'll have a few guest bloggers {if you're interested in blogging for me shoot me an e-mail or leave me a comment} for y'all to check out.

Here is a sneak-peak of my trip.

lighthouses.

A few summers ago we took a family vacation to Boston and Maine.  While in Maine we visited a few lighthouses in Southern Maine.  Maine has some beautiful lighthouses!

Here are a few pictures I took of Nubble Light at Cape Neddick in York, Maine.

Don't you just love lighthouses? I think they are so beautiful and fun to visit.

Have you visited any lighthouses?

Have Bags, Will Travel

I always over pack.  Every time I go home for a weekend or a break from school, I pack my entire closet.  It is extremely unnecessary and it takes me forever to unpack when I get back to school, but I seem to still do it every time I go home.  I'm trying to get better.

I tend to use my Vera Bradley or Lilly Pulitzer totes, but I have quite a few other bags that I use for quick trips.  Here are a few bag ideas for weekend (or longer) trips.

trip to baton rouge.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I would be traveling to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the Florida/LSU football game.  Well, the Gators did not come out on top... In fact, we were horrible fans and left before the first half was even over.  I hate leaving games before the end of the third quarter.  I think if you're going to waste a ticket you should at least stay that long... But, not this time!  It was so hot, it was an afternoon game and the sun was beaming down right over the visitors section.  I got a weird sunburn on only the right side of my forehead (not fun!).  Not to mention our teams performance was embarrassing!  We didn't expect to win, I mean we haven't had the greatest season so far and it's always hard to play at Tiger Stadium... but this was pathetic!

Luckily, some of the group we tailgated with did not go to the game and were still hanging out, watching the game on TV.  So, we knew we had somewhere to go to wait for my wonderful uncle (who also did not attend the game) was able to drive right up to our tailgate area to pick us up!  During the game my aunt and uncle were babysitting my new baby cousin Smith, so they were very happy not to go the game.

Despite the horrible game (for us!), the trip was a lot of fun, because we got to meet our newest family member, Smith!  Obviously, this was the highlight of the trip.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

trip to tupelo.

After our weekend at Calloway Gardens we drove to Tupelo, Mississippi to visit my Moms family, celebrate my aunts birthday and celebrate my cousins recent wedding.  It has been a few years since I have been to Tupelo... it was nice to visit again!

Tupelo is the birthplace of Elvis Presley.  We stayed in downtown near Tupelo Hardware where Elvis Presley bought his first guitar!

On Saturday we had a party to celebrate the marriage of my cousin Tanner to Alexis.  My Mom and two aunts hosted the party at a gallery in downtown, where Tanner has some of his art for sale.
