Summer Movies

My family and I love to watch movies.  We watch them all the time at home or in the theaters.  The summer time and the holidays tend to be the best time for movie releases.

This summer I've seen...

Dark Shadows

I love Johnny Depp, but Dark Shadows was not my favorite movie.  I though it was kind of weird, but I think they intended for it to be a little weird.  I'm not really into vampires (I am not a Twilight fan... I know, you're shocked!).  But, since this movie stared J Depp and Helena Bonham Carter (whom I love!) of course I had to see it.  It was pretty funny, but, in my opinion, a one time watch movie.  I saw it (was mildly entertained) and I don't need to see it again.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

Madagascar 3 was super cute! For a children's movie, I was pretty entertained.  I don't think it was better than the previous two (like the advertisements said), but I thought it was pretty funny!  After all, who can resist a movie staring talking cartoon animals!

Seeking a Friend of the End of the World

Seeking A Friend For The End of The World was laugh-out-loud funny at times.  Steve Carell and Keira Knightley were great, as usual.  I highly recommend seeing this movie if you haven't, but keep in mind it does have an R rating, which you will understand during the beginning of the movie.

People Like Us

People Like Us is simply a happy heart-warming summer movie.  I really enjoyed it and recommend it!

I'm looking forward to seeing...

The Amazing Spider-Man

Ice Age Continental Drift

The Odd Life of Timothy Green

pink & patchwork.

I kind of love this picture.  It's just so me... it doesn't really show off my outfit, but I think it's still cute.

organize, me : desk.

Summer school is over and I finally get a summer break!  But, before I left my apartment for two months I cleaned out my desk and re-organized everything.  It felt so good to be organized again.  I hate feeling like my room is cluttered.

I organized all my old notes into binders and recycled the ones I no longer needed.  I tested all my pens and tossed the ones that did not work.

Before

As you can see my desk was a huge mess, I never cleaned it out at the end of the spring semester and it was driving me insane!

I use this blue canvas zip box to hold my textbooks and notebooks during the semester.

My desk doesn't have a lot of storage space, so I use this four drawer plastic storage container to hold miscellaneous things like paper, chargers, and flash cards.

One drawer holds all my paper and flash cards so they're always on hand when I'm studying or working.

I use this drawer to hold extra school supplies like dividers, notebooks and printer ink.

The top drawer holds all my random school supplies like my 3-hole-punch, pencil sharpener and calculators.  It's important to have them within reach when working.

Here is a view inside the top left drawer of my desk.

Here is a view of the top right drawer.

It was so nice to organize all my pens and clean-out the ones that no longer work.  The top drawer holds all my colored sharpies, the middle drawer holds pens and pencils and the bottom drawer holds random things like stamps and erasers.

How do you keep your desk organized?

dogeared.

A few summers ago my mom and I went to Mississippi to stay with my aunt for a little while, while she was going through breast cancer treatment.  It was so scary to hear that she was going to have a double mastectomy...  Luckily everything went well and she's doing great now!

While in Mississippi we went to this adorable boutique {mentioned here} where we found this fabulous Dogeared monkey necklace.  I got one for me and one for my aunt to make her smile and remind her that everything was going to be okay.  She kept the necklace with her during all of her treatments and took it to the hospital on the day of her surgery.  She said I was her "Monkey Twin" and I was so happy that she had something fun to help take her mind off being in the hospital.  Every time I wear this necklace I think of her and it brings a smile to my face.

I love the message on this one...
Make a wish & put on your necklace.  You deserve three cheers!  This accomplishment is only one of many.  Wear your necklace as a reminder of how far you've come! Celebrate!

Dogeared jewelry is so great because they all have great messages to go with the jewelry.  On a daily basis I don't like to wear necklaces that are too big, so these necklaces are perfect.

These necklaces are perfect gifts for all occasions.  From graduation to bridesmaid gifts there is a Dogeared necklace that is perfect for just about every occasion.

What's your favorite Dogeared necklace?

lighthouses.

A few summers ago we took a family vacation to Boston and Maine.  While in Maine we visited a few lighthouses in Southern Maine.  Maine has some beautiful lighthouses!

Here are a few pictures I took of Nubble Light at Cape Neddick in York, Maine.

Don't you just love lighthouses? I think they are so beautiful and fun to visit.

Have you visited any lighthouses?

designer look alikes : flats

If you have been a reader for awhile you know that I am a little obsessed with Kate Spade and Tory Burch.  I own a few pairs of Tory Burch flats (that I got at the outlet) and I do think they are worth the price you pay (for some of them... the limited edition ones are just insane!).  But, unless it's a classic pair like brown or black or something you know you'll wear all the time, I don't think it's smart to throw your life savings into a pair of shoes.

I am a huge fan of everything Kate Spade, but I don't get the opportunity to buy most of items that I like because of the outrageously high price tag.  Last spring I fell in love with these Kate Spade Tipsy flats with the pink cap-toe {worn by Bryce Dallas Howard in last years KS campaign}.  After all, a girl can never have too much pink in her wardrobe, right?  Plus, they are just so darn cute and trendy!  Naturally, they sold out quickly and did not go on sale (in pink).

But, don't worry girls, I have found a solution to our fashion dilemma.  One that will make your wallet and your closet very happy!  These Lucky Ballerina flats for $24.90!  Now, that's a price I can live with!!!!  Don't you think look so similar... you'll think twice next time you see a fancy designer shoe with a crazy high price tag!

Since I will be graduating college soon, I have been trying to think about buying items that can be used as "business attire".  When I first saw these Kate Spade Tabitha flats a few months ago {mentioned here} I fell in love with them.  They are trendy (like the ones above), but still appropriate to wear to work.  And, I think the classic tan and black combination looks so professional!  Yet, once again, the $225 price tag hit me like a ton of bricks and thus I did not purchase the shoes.  Luckily, Old Navy has a pair of $22 flats that look almost identical!

A few months ago I ordered these Lucky Emmie flats in pink.  They are great, because I did not want to spend $178 on hot pink flats, since I know I won't wear them all the time.  They are kind of stiff, but as I wear them they seem to be getting better.  But, they are still worth it since they were only $59!

Last year I purchased a pair of Tory Burch Eddie Ballet flats.  They were a little pricy, but they are the most comfortable pair of flats that I own!  I have a very difficult time find shoes that fit because I have a small foot... so Tory flats often work very well for me when others don't.  But, these Lucky flats are a fabulous alternative and will save your wallet!

Want to add a little bit of glitter to your life?  I recommend these Steve Madden Kinnetic Glitter flats for only $39.99.  Aren't they so fun?
