Fall Gift Guide

I am the worst procrastinator when it comes to buying gifts for friends and family.  I find myself shopping online and thinking something would be the perfect gift for a friend or family member, then chickening out and not ordering anything.  I then end up waiting until the last minute and getting stressed out searching for the perfect hostess, birthday or Christmas gift.  Living in a small town less than an hour from two larger cities means we don't have many options for boutiques or gift shops to run to when we're in need of a quick gift purchase.  It's always a good idea to keep a few easy gifts on hand in a gift drawer to grab when your in a pinch or invited to a last minute dinner party.  Wine or specialty food items are always easy go-to hostess gifts, but many occasions call for more personal gifts.

If you're like me and have trouble purchasing the perfect gift for an occasion, here a few items (under $100) that I think are great for many different gift giving occasions.

I actually kinda love getting dressed up in work attire.  Coming up with alternatives to the typical black or navy suit.  The traditional business attire isn't necessarily the norm in most offices anymore, so you have a lot more freedom to show your personal style in the office.  Today I am linking-up with long distance loving for another fun week of Friday's Fancies showing off our favorite office looks.

How do you add a bit of your own personal style, yet stay professional for work?

6 Monthly Box Subscriptions That Make Great Gifts

Whether you want to pamper yourself or a friend, monthly box subscriptions are a great way to give a gift that keeps on giving.

(1) Umba Box | A fun assortment of handmade goods, the Umba Box can be shipped to your door for less than $30 a month.  The Umba Box contains one stand out item each month, such as a handmade colorblock clutch from Velle Purse and sometimes, if your lucky, a few standout items.  You can choose a variety of subscriptions - 3-month & month-to-month subscriptions for $25 each (plus $5 shipping); 6-month subscriptions $25 each (shipping free); 12-month subscription $23 each (shipping free).

(2) Love With Food | Love With Food fills your mailbox with hard-to-find gourmet goodies packed in themed boxes.  But they also have a larger mission, to fill food banks across the country with meals for those in need... who doesn't want to contribute to that & get yummy treats shipped to your doorstep?  Each subscription is $10 per month for 3-month plans (shipping $2), 6-month plans (shipping $1), or 12-month plans (free shipping).

(3) Birch Box | A very popular box is Birch Box.  It is one of the less expensive, yet still very fun boxes!  Since it is only $10 a month it can be hit-or-miss, they claim to give you deluxe samples, but sometimes you may only get foil packet samples.

(4) Craft Coffee | If you're looking for a gift for your favorite coffee lover, a Craft Coffee subscription is the perfect happy surprise in their mailbox.  It will be an instant pick-me-up!  With monthly coffee samples from micro-roasters & boutique coffee companies such as Portland's Coava Coffee Roasters, Miami's Panther Coffee, and others this box is fabulous for any caffeine addict.  A Craft Coffee subscription is $25 per month for a 3-month subscription, $22.50 per month for 6-months, & $20 per month for annual plans; shipping is free!

(5) Bark Box | Pet lovers rejoice!  There is a box for you too.  The Bark Box allows you to spoil your pooch while you help save another.  Bark Box donates 10% off all their sales to local animal reuse facilities.  Each box contains at least four items for your pup and can be anything from food samples to shampoos and leashes.  The items are usually from small businesses that cannot be found in big name pet stores.  You can pamper your pooch for $25 a month (free shipping!).

(6) Julep Maven | If you love having perfectly polished nails, Julep Maven is the subscription for you.  Each month a new collection of colors & nail treatments will be shipped to your door.  A single bottle of Julep Maven polish retails for $14, but you can get a whole collection at your door for $20.  However, if you tend to stick to the same colors all the time, this is not the box for you.

Have you tried any fun box subscriptions?

Fall Wish List

Banana Republic Sloane Riding Boot / Gigi New York Clutch
Tory Burch Sally Peep Toe Wedge / C. Wonder Two Tone Link Bracelet

I have been longing for fall the past few days.  My friends who live in DC and NYC have been seeing the beginnings of the fall season, but down here in good 'ole Florida it's still hot hot hot!  I have had to be creative with my "fall" looks this week and am guilty of wearing sweaters around my house just so I can pretend fall is here.  I am ready to pull out my trusty riding boots and tights, but since I am sure that is weeks away for me... I can only dream of fall leaves, pumpkins and cable knit sweaters and of course put together wish lists!

Head over to long distance loving to see what everyone is wishing for this fall!

What are you wishing for this fall?

Anthropologie Fashion Show Hyde Park

Last week I attended the Fall 2013 Anthropologie fashion show in Hyde Park.  I drove over to Tampa with my friend Leslie and we ate dinner at Jackson's Bistro.  At Jackson's I had the crab ravioli and lobster bistro... it was delicious!

Anthropologie served us champaign, ice tea and mini cheesecakes.  We sat front row for the fashion show and then got to shop shop shop!

Here are a few pictures from the event.

Working Girl Bags

I am all about the fashionable alternative to the briefcase.  Briefcases are so 1990, don't you think?  These days a working girl needs an adorable tote that can take her from the coffee shop, to the office, to dinner/drinks with friends.  The perfect working girl tote fits everything a young professional needs to get through the day.  AKA - phone/iPad/laptop charger, makeup (for mid-day touch-ups of course!), snacks (candy, fruit, whatever your preference you'll be happy you packed a snack!), headphones, wallet, papers/books/whatever you need to take form work to the office (i.e. planner, notepads, etc.), and whatever else that may help you get through the day a little easier.  Your work bag is like a mini traveling office, so it's important to pack what you need!

Remember this post?  Well I found this bag at T.J. Maxx and now it's my go-to work tote.  But, I'm still on the lookout for another one... maybe a little bit smaller, a cross between a tote and a purse perhaps!

What is your go-to work bag/purse?  Any suggestions for my purse dilemma?

3 Outfits for A Weekend of Football

Friday Night Lights

Saturday Afternoon Tailgate

Sunday Night Football

Whether you watch football on Friday night, Saturday or Sunday (or perhaps Thursday or Monday), it's always important to put together a cute outfit!  You all know I'm a diehard Gator fan, but for my 3 football inspired looks I decided to be neutral.  Cute jeans are perfect for a Friday night cheering on your favorite local high school team.  A fun sundress (paired with tights in the winter) is perfect for a long day of tailgating and cheering on your favorite college team (Go Gators!).  And of course, a comfy pair of leggings with a cute tunic is the perfect things for a Sunday evening of cheering on your favorite Pro team at a local bar with friends.  Add your favorite pair of comfy flats or boots and top off a great weekend of football with family and friends!

Head over to long distance loving to see what other bloggers have put together for this week's Friday's Fancies link-up!

What team is your favorite one to cheer on each weekend during the fall?

Working Girl Shoes for Any Budget

Professional Shoes

I am still hunting for a full-time job, but (luckily) I am working part-time while applying for jobs so having a few go-to pairs of professional shoes is a must.  It is always nice to be prepared in case I am called for an interview or need to go to a networking event.

Whether your workplace dresses in formal business attire or a bit more casual I think it's always nice to have a few good pairs of closed-toe and peep-toe shoes for work.   Save the Jack Rogers for Friday!  Flats and wedges are great to have for days when you want to be a little more comfortable (or if you'll be walking in the grass).  I wear a 5.5 so I tend to have trouble buying shoes that fit properly.  I recommend ordering online from Zappos or Nordstrom if you are in the need of new shoes.  Both these sites are great with returns and offer free shipping both ways!  Order a bunch of shoes to try and send back, they won't mind, promise!

What are your favorite go-to professional shoes?  What are your favorite shoe stores?

xoxo

Ylakeland.com

In the spring I interned for the Lakeland Economic Development Council (LEDC).  I wrote articles relating to post-grad life and job searching for their blog, YLakeland.  It was so much fun getting to share my experiences joining the young professionals group, EMERGE, sharing resume/job hunting tips and talking about my overall experiences as a young professional back in my hometown of Lakeland.  While interning with the LEDC I was able to learn a great deal about my community and everything it has to offer residents of all ages.  I was able to be on the ground floor of plans the LEDC has to expand their blog (& our community) and now they are making it happen.

First off, they are hosting a video contest (if you are from the area, you should totally enter!).  Second, they are doing a whole lot to help entrepreneurs in the Lakeland area (check out Catapult Lakeland).  This is "freaking" awesome!  Third, they are continuing to promote all things cool and unique in Lakeland (check out some of the yummy places there are to eat in Lakeland).

Last week I attended my first Junior League of Greater Lakeland meeting (more on that to come).  At this meeting my former boss, Steve Scruggs of the LEDC, gave a presentation on IDEO.  IDEO is a design and innovative consulting firm from Palo Alto, CA that visited Lakeland in the spring.  While the four members of the IDEO team were visiting, I was interning with the LEDC.  I heard a great deal about all the awesome things they were doing during their visit, but seeing a full presentation really brought the whole process to life and showed me exactly how "freaking" cool it really was.  Read more about the project here!

Here is an example of videos (for the video contest) shared by YLakeland.com!  Remember the Poor Porker from this post?  Well, they're still a "freaking" cool asset in our community!

Visit YLakeland.com and let me know what you think of the site!
