Today we salute the boy who lived.

Happy Birthday Harry James Potter!

Back to School : Dorm & Apartment Decor

I love decorating.  It was so much fun when I went to college and I was able to buy all new things for my room.  My bedspread came from Anthropologie and everything else came from Target and Pier One.  If you're living in a dorm it is best to coordinate with your roommate to make your dorm as cute as possible.  It is fun to get matching bedspreads or maybe the same bedspread in two colors.  You want to show your individual style while coordinating with your new roomie to make your dorm as cute as possible.

PB Teen has a great dorm collection

When decorating your dorm it is important to remember that your space needs to be both functional and cute.  Your dorm will serve as your bedroom, kitchen, living room, and study area so it's important to make your space conducive to all of these things.  You want to have space for your clothes, toiletries, and cookware.  Your dorm will likely come with furniture, but it is important to coordinate with your roommate on things like a TV or refrigerator.

If you're living in an apartment you may have to buy furniture.  There are a lot of great places to find cute furniture for an affordable price.  Target and Ikea both have cheap and cute furniture options, however both of these places require you to assemble the furniture.  Places like Rooms to Go and American Signature also have great selections for reasonable prices.  It is also a lot of fun to go to consignment shops and used hotel furniture stores to find unique furniture at a great price.  If you are living with a roommate it is important to discuss what each person will be responsible for and then try to coordinate the furniture and decor to your liking.  My first apartment was furnished so if you're lucky enough to have a furnished apartment then all you have to worry about is making it feel like home.  Pier 1 is a great place to find rugs, lamps, decorations, and wall art to make your new place all your own.

Featured are two lamps from Pier 1.

Lilly Pulitzer also has a great collection of bedding for an apartment or dorm.

You can match your bedroom and bathroom with these cute Lilly shower-curtains.

Good luck decorating your new home!

Happy Birthday Jackie O!

Today would have been Jackie Kennedy Onassis' 82nd birthday.  Jackie Kennedy is my favorite first lady.  She always presented herself with style and class.  The Kennedy's are always going to be an iconic family for US History.  Jackie Kennedy will always be a style-icon.
Happy Birthday Jackie O!

Apps, Apps, Apps!

I love my iPhone, but sometimes it's hard to decide what apps are the best to download.  I always download the free apps, but sometimes I think it might be worth the extra .99 or 2.00 dollars for the nicer apps.
What apps do you love?

I love Words with Friends, CNN and Fandango.
Facebook and Twitter take up way too much of my time...
I love having Tumblr and Blogger at my fingertips at all times.
It's time for my iPhone to get cleaned up...so which apps do you think are keeps and which one's should I trash?  Help me clean up my phone.

Page One

Last night my parents and I went to Page One at the Polk Theater.  It was a great movie.  I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the media and newspaper industry.  It gives an inside look at what has happened over the past few years to dramatically change the industry forever.

Below is the trailer for the documentary... go see it, you won't regret it!

Judith March.

I just got the most adorable Judith March dress when I was in Tupelo, Mississippi last week at the most adorable boutique, Yellow Lovebirds.  Judith March dresses are so cute!

Judith March is one of my new favorite designers.  Her dresses can be found in boutiques such as Hattie's Branches in Lakeland or M.Marie's in Winter Haven.  A few of my favorites from her summer collection are pictured below.

Check out Judith March's website for more styles, they are all so cute!

trip to tupelo.

After our weekend at Calloway Gardens we drove to Tupelo, Mississippi to visit my Moms family, celebrate my aunts birthday and celebrate my cousins recent wedding.  It has been a few years since I have been to Tupelo... it was nice to visit again!

Tupelo is the birthplace of Elvis Presley.  We stayed in downtown near Tupelo Hardware where Elvis Presley bought his first guitar!

On Saturday we had a party to celebrate the marriage of my cousin Tanner to Alexis.  My Mom and two aunts hosted the party at a gallery in downtown, where Tanner has some of his art for sale.

The Royals come to our side of the pond.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge came to our side of the pond this week.  The newlyweds took a North American tour and during their trip made a stop in Los Angelas, California.  They fit in so well with Hollywood Royalty!

Here are a few pictures of HRH Catherine's gorgeous outfits on her first trip to Canada & America.

Don't they look adorable in their cowboy hats and western attire?

Reese Witherspoon looks great shaking hands with the new duchess.

Which outfit of Kate's is your favorite?

Calloway Gardens

Over the 4th of July weekend my parents and I traveled north to Calloway Gardens in Pine Mt., Georgia.  My parents had visited there many years ago and wanted to go back to see what it was like now.  We drove all day Saturday, stopping in Valdosta, Georgia for lunch at Chili's.

Calloway Garden's is a huge golf resort.  It has a spa, tennis courts, two golf courses, horseback riding, swimming, and just about anything you could imagine to do outdoors.  When we got there it was just about dinner time so we cleaned up and went to dinner at the Gardens Restaurant, one of the resorts nicer restaurants.  We sat outside, overlooking a lake and part of the golf course.  It was beautiful, but very hot! After dinner we drove around the resort for a little while and then stopped for ice cream at Rockin' Robbin's Malt Shop where we all ate Pralines and Cream...Yummy!

On Sunday we woke up and went to breakfast at the Country Kitchen, just a short drive from our cottage.  I had French Toast, it was delicious.  After breakfast we decided to venture to the gardens.  The resort is full of trails for walking or biking where you can look a beautiful flowers and plants.  Unfortunately, it has been so hot this summer all over the US that many of the flowers were not in bloom.  I think it would be better if we came during the spring when it was not as hot.  But, despite the lack of pretty flowers we had a nice walk and saw a few turtles.  After walking a few of the trails we decided to go to the butterfly house.  It is always fun to see multicolored butterflies flying around you.

Monday, the 4th of July, we went to breakfast at the lodge, which offers a buffet with everything you could possibly want.  The lodge also has free WiFi so we took our iPads and spent a little while checking our e-mails and browsing the Internet.  Of course, my Dad hates not having the ability to check the news every too seconds. :)  After breakfast we went to the pool and relaxed for a little while, but of course I didn't improve my tan any. haha!

Every summer the Florida State University Circus performs at Calloway Gardens so in the afternoon we went to the circus.  Although it is not like the typical circus that you might be thinking of with animals...it only has acrobats and boy was I impressed.  These are kids around my age that were flying way above my head and walking tightropes... it was amazing!  After the show we drove around the resort and looked at a few of the houses on the property.  They were so cute, but I don't think I would pick Calloway Gardens for my vacation home...I would prefer somewhere with a little bit more activity...  The night of the 4th there were fireworks over the lake so we watch those from our cottage and then watched the 4th of July special in Washington, DC.  We saw my dad's friend Hal Rodgers (Congressman from Kentucky) and his daughter on TV at the DC 4th of July special!

On Tuesday we headed to Tupelo, Mississippi with a stop at the Summit in Birmingham, Alabama for some lunch at the California Pizza Kitchen and a little bit of shopping.  We also watched the Casey Anthony trial verdict on TV at one of the stores...needless to say everyone was shocked by the verdict.
